Recipe: Spiced Salted Cream Espresso Martini (makes 1 serving)
2 oz. Vodka
1 oz. Tia Maria Coffee Liquor
1.5 oz. Espresso
3 oz. Frothed Heavy Cream seasoned with 0.2 oz. Coarse Sea Salt and 0.06 oz. each of Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Sugar and Coriander
Shake Vodka, Coffee Liquor and Espresso vigorously over ice. Serve in a chilled coupe glass topped with frothed seasoned cream foam and garnished with a Sugar in the Raw rim, Gold Flake and micro-planed Coffee Bean.

<h1>Leadership Insights: Creating a Culture of Service Excellence</h1>
Hospitality and service are often mentioned together, but they’re not quite the same. Hospitality is about creating a feeling—how we make people feel welcomed and valued. Service, on the other hand, is about the actions we take and how we measure those efforts. At 24seven Hotels, our mission goes beyond service; we strive to craft an experience that ensures every guest feels seen, heard, and truly appreciated—leaving them with an unforgettable, lasting impression.
Let’s hear from two hotel leaders at the top performing SpringHill Suites Boise West/Eagle: TJ Gibson, General Manager and Justin Sharp, Assistant General Manager.
What does service excellence mean in the context of the hospitality industry?
TJ: Service excellence begins with the guest’s first impression on arrival. Keeping the hotel exterior and entrances clean is crucial as it sets a positive tone. As guests enter a tidy lobby, they should be greeted promptly by a welcoming associate. This is one of the defining things I&#8217;ve noticed at my hotels that helps ensure an enjoyable stay. A key component of this is training our associates to follow the 15/5 rule throughout the guest’s stay – at 15 feet you acknowledge the guest with a smile or nod and at 5 feet you greet them with a “hello.” This simple practice makes a big difference. We discuss the 15/5 rule and share guest experiences during our morning meetings to keep service ideas fresh and effective.
Building our service culture though begins with a daily morning meeting – and we view it as a celebration. This instrumental for informing staff about hotel happenings to ensure they&#8217;re well-prepared. We discuss a weekly service topic, share service stories, and play a song of the week with lights for added fun and morale boosting. These five to ten-minute meetings foster teamwork and a collective atmosphere. It is tailored to keep communication open and discuss service strategies with all departments. This meeting also encourages our associates to be able to approach hotel leaders with anything that they may need. Guest surveys are also reviewed to highlight our strengths and areas for improvement, and service topics often address current guest feedback, allowing quick resolution of potential issues. This is also a great time to help them manage their workload and stress levels in effective ways.
What role does leadership play in shaping a culture of service excellence?
Justin: As leaders, we aim to continually improve our associates&#8217; experience. I prioritize being present with my team and demonstrating to them they are important by pausing my work to address their needs. I communicate expectations clearly and lead by example, I never ask anything of them that I wouldn&#8217;t do myself. We then work together to determine what we need to do to meet our standards, ensuring they are invested in the process every step of the way.
How do you hire and train staff to embody a culture of service excellence?
TJ: During an interview, one primary focus of mine is to ensure that the candidate demonstrates a genuine passion for serving others and improving someone&#8217;s day. If this passion isn&#8217;t evident, I do not proceed with hiring. While I can provide training for job-specific duties, instilling a desire to serve our guests is innate in someone. Associates lacking this fundamental drive can negatively impact team morale and the quality of service we offer.
It&#8217;s crucial to engage with associates and understand what enhances their performance. I regularly inquire how I can improve their work experience and support their professional growth. This empowerment fosters their development, ensuring they feel confident in their abilities across any career path they pursue.
How does a hotel maintain high standards and what strategies are in place to ensure service consistency? 
Justin: Leadership sets the tone. Leaders must communicate expectations clearly and make sure department heads have what they need to meet Marriott standards and service metrics reliably. We demonstrate the behaviors and actions we expect from our team. Our associates see us working alongside them, performing the same tasks they are asked to do. This shows our support for them. We empower the team to resolve issues and ensure a pleasant stay for our guests, they understand and have confidence that we will back their decisions. We provide regular coaching and training to facilitate improvement. We utilize our systems and tools to keep detailed notes about our guests and listen to what our guests are saying. We read and respond to every review to see what is going well for us, and what is not going well and then share with our team. We share not only the guest comments, but also how we respond to each guest as well. Then we show we care by acting upon these things. I have even had guests with a bad experience leave feedback and because I followed up with them to address their concerns they will return.
What role does employee engagement play in providing finely tuned hospitality? 
Justin: I am constantly talking to my team, asking for their opinions and ideas &#8211; I’m genuinely interested in what they have to say! They feel more empowered when the ideas come from themselves, and I let them take initiative in crafting those kick-ass guest experiences. Maybe it’s offering a discount for bereavement or giving a complimentary beverage or snack for a tired guest. We let the staff know that we’re in hospitality. We don’t have to give everything away but making those small gestures with our guests goes a long way in how they feel. Ultimately, they’re the ones that must carry out the excellent service and they are more eager to do so when it genuinely comes from their hearts and minds.
 What are some innovative practices your hotel has implemented to enhance the guest experience?
Justin: We ensure that every ambassador elite member receives a welcome letter in the room. I like to put the handwritten note in the spotlight in their room with a bottle of water.
We dim lighting and set out votive candles in the lobby in the evening to create an inviting atmosphere for our guests.
I ensure that I’m present at the front desk during peak check in/out times and speak to every guest. Walking through breakfast and speaking with guests is very important to create an all-around service experience. Sometimes, the guests do not realize that I’m a manager, because I’m wearing a regular hotel uniform. I think it gives me a unique chance to listen to their feedback when they’re not realizing I’m a manager.

Justin: Several things – empowered associates and guest engagement. I speak to guests several times throughout their stay, when they share that someone provided good service, I am honored to provide the associates name and invite them to leave a review and submit a survey.
The recognition reflects our team&#8217;s unwavering dedication to delivering exceptional hospitality every day. We prominently display the awards in our back office for everyone to celebrate and understand that good efforts bring good rewards. Our associates not only get to celebrate together but it helps motivate them to keep pushing so they can earn one as well. When new associates are hired, I explain to them about the award to inspire them as well.

Our housekeeping teams ensure every detail is fine-tuned to create a welcoming environment, where guests feel not just at home, but truly valued. Because it&#8217;s the little things that turn a stay into a memorable experience. Meet three of our passionate housekeeping leaders who help us deliver unforgettable performances every day.

How long have you been in the hospitality industry?
Edith: I have been in the hospitality industry for 21 years. I started my career as a room attendant and have worked my way up through various roles, eventually becoming a director.
Doris: As long as I’ve lived here, for 9 years.
Claudia: 9 years.
&nbsp;
What is your favorite part of your job?
Edith: The people I serve – my guests and my team. Over the years, I’ve found that sharing my knowledge to help others grow and doing something positive for someone brings me a great deal of satisfaction.
Doris: The great feeling of accomplishment when the room is clean after it was destroyed.
Claudia: My favorite part of my job is our guests. I take great pride in making their stay as perfect as possible.

Any tips [leadership or cleaning] to share?
Edith: Lead by example and empower your team members and lead by example. Create a fun and positive work environment. Demonstrate how working together can make a real difference—when everyone sees the positive impact of their collective efforts, it boosts morale knowing we all make each other stronger.
Doris: Use vinegar to clean anything if there are no chemical cleaners available.  It works the same and is like magic!
Claudia: Making a bed that&#8217;s larger than a twin can be time-consuming no matter which corner you start with, you almost always realize you put the long end of a fitted sheet on the short end of the mattress. The trick is tags always go on the bottom.
&nbsp;
How do you motivate yourself and your team?
Edith: I’ve learned that sticking to the same routine can make work feel boring and uninspiring. To keep things fresh, I challenge people to grow and chase their own goals in the industry. I love empowering my team to think and act like leaders—it keeps them excited and gives their work real meaning. I also promote a culture of sharing by encouraging everyone to teach others what they know. This way, everyone stays engaged and invested, and we all keep learning and growing together.
Doris: I’m always motivated, seriously, always. Tracking our service and cleanliness scores, working to achieve top brand ranking, and always knowing we can improve is what drives me. For my team, I love to serve them good food—tacos and consistently show my appreciation for their hard work to keep them motivated.
Claudia: Motivation is about more than just doing the job at hand, it&#8217;s about doing your job with passion and purpose. I&#8217;m a self-starter and I lead my team by example. I hold inspiring morning meetings and create fun incentives, not just focusing on where the team can improve but recognizing them for a job well done.
&nbsp;
What does hospitality mean to you?
Edith: It’s about creating memorable experiences and making real connections with a diverse range of people—this applies to both our internal and external guests; they are all important to keep happy. Seeing their joy and knowing I played a part in it brings me a deep sense of personal fulfillment.
Doris: Making my guests comfortable, letting them feel like this is their home-away-from-home.
Claudia: Making sure every detail is finely tuned to create a welcoming environment.

Q: How long have you been in the Food &amp; Beverage industry?
A: 22 years

Q: What do you love most about your role as a Corporate Director of Food &amp; Beverage?
A: I love working in different markets and having the opportunity to create unique, localized menus for our guests. It’s a rewarding experience to embrace each hotel brand and each community, bringing their story to life through beverages and food.
&nbsp;
Q: Tell us about any Food &amp; Beverage trends you are seeing right now and how 24seven Hotels is embracing them.
A: This year, we are seeing an increased focus on beverage programs and food menus are being refined &#8211; more simple and locally sourced. Cocktails are being infused with teas and fresh vegetable juices and fusion cuisine has been on the rise.
We change our hotel menus quarterly to ensure we can tap into the freshest ingredients and latest popular flavors. Having both the beverage and food menus speak to the market while embracing current techniques, reflects travelers growing appreciation for cultural diversity in their dining experiences.

Q: What is your favorite menu item right now?
A: On a hot summer day, I love Aguachile with fresh Baja Shrimp paired with a Flor de Mexico cocktail. We make this cocktail with Mezcal,  Jamaica, Aperol and Agave Nectar then garnish it with Black Sea Salt and local flowers.

Q: As a culinary leader, how do you inspire your team?
A: I want to ensure every associate, Front of House or Back of House, puts their own signature on each drink and each dish we serve. It gives them a sense of ownership and pride in the experiences we are providing to our guests.

Q: How long have you been in culinary arts?
A: I have been in the culinary field for 22 years. Two years washing dishes, two years in culinary school and 18 years cooking and managing.

Q: Why did you become a chef?
A: I started helping a local caterer with events on the weekends to earn extra money and just fell in love with it. I quit my job as a technical director of a local news station and enrolled in culinary school!
&nbsp;
Q: How do you describe your cooking style?
A: My cuisine is a mix of rustic and modern styles focused on California costal ingredients and flavors. There is satisfaction in creating simple, quality and nourishing dishes for our guests.
&nbsp;
Q: What most excites you on your current menu?
A: I really like our Yogurt Marinated Chicken. It is local chicken from Jimenez Family Farms located in Santa Ynez. I love showcasing our local farmers.
&nbsp;
Q: What is a typical day like for you and your team?
A: Each day begins with setting up breakfast service then I have meetings with vendors and work on ordering products. In the afternoon, we create food for our marketplace which rolls us into dinner prep followed by cleaning up and getting ready to do it all over again!
&nbsp;
Q: Congratulations on your recent promotion! Tell us about your new role and what you are most looking forward to?
A: I am looking forward to the opportunity to impart my culinary knowledge and expertise to fellow chefs and cooks to help them grow and be successful. I also enjoy setting up systems to improve the quality of food and service which will be a fun challenge for me at multiple locations.

Meet Adin Castillo, he is a Sales Managers and one of our growing leaders. He has a real passion for people and service excellence and is enthusiastic about what’s to come.
How long have you been in hospitality?
I&#8217;ve been in the hospitality industry close to 10 years.
What does hospitality mean to you?
To me, hospitality is about making people feel genuinely welcome and appreciated. In sales, this means really listening to our clients, understanding what they need, and going above and beyond to meet those needs. It&#8217;s about building strong, lasting relationships and ensuring that every guest has a fantastic experience with us. When our clients feel valued and taken care of, they&#8217;re more likely to come back and recommend us to others. It’s all about creating those memorable moments that make people smile and want to return.
What is a motto you like to live by?
It is literally true that you can succeed best and quickest by helping others to succeed.
What motivated you to step up and become a leader in the organization?
I believe in the power of connecting with others and building positive relationships. In our hotels, I&#8217;ve seen how important it is to connect with both guests and colleagues. When we focus on building real relationships and making everyone feel welcome, heard and cared for, this motivates our team to give their best.
I&#8217;ve been fortunate to have amazing mentors like Rosanna Harrison, Area Director of Sales, who has been there for me since the beginning. She has helped me every step of the way on my growth journey, and Eddie Andre, my General Manager, who has shown me the impact a great leader can have. Their support and my desire to contribute more to our team&#8217;s success inspired me to step up.
What are you most looking forward to in your new sales role?
I&#8217;m most looking forward to building strong relationships with our clients and partners, understanding their needs, and providing solutions that exceed their expectations. It&#8217;s exciting to think about how I can contribute to our growth and success in this new role!

Have you ever wondered who keeps the lights on long after you’ve turned in for the night when you stay at a hotel? There’s a behind-the-scenes role in hotels that few people outside the industry know about, but it’s served as the starting point for many hotel professionals—it’s the role of the Night Auditor.
Night Auditor Appreciation Day is an initiative started by <a href="https://otelier.io/">Otelier</a> in recognition of the invaluable contribution night auditors make and an acknowledgment of their potential to be future leaders in the hospitality industry. So in honor of the second annual celebration, let’s hear from a few of the Night Auditors at <a href="https://www.247hotels.com/">24seven Hotels</a>.

What does a Night Auditor in a hotel do?
Lynn: It’s a good mixture of guest service, accounting, and administrative responsibilities.
Susie: I am responsible for closing out one day and starting the next and maintaining a safe and secure hotel throughout the night.
Why did you choose this role:
Kylie: I&#8217;m more of a night owl and enjoy making others smile, even in the late hours of the night. Sometimes people need that last smile of the day before they go to bed and I love being the one to do that.
Frank: It’s a great way to learn and get started in hospitality.
Sonia: It provides me with the flexibility I need.
How does a typical night start? 
Kylie: Conversing with the coworker that is my pass down. I enjoy hearing what occurred during the day, and checking-in on how guests are doing. Sometimes though, it needs to be all hands-on deck and I toss my stuff in the back and start checking guests in right away!
Kathy: With pass downs from the day shift to get caught up on the day’s activities and security checks.
You’re a good fit for a night auditor job if…
Kylie: This is a hard question because the easy answers is if you like being awake at night, but it is so much more than that. You are a little bit of everything on Night Audit. You are Front Desk Agent, Auditor, Maintenance for minor things like resetting TV&#8217;s and Housekeeping. It really is a great feeling making someone&#8217;s night because you fixed their TV or were able to bring bedding to their room to make them comfortable.
Alex: You&#8217;re process-oriented, good at staying awake and can manage the hotel with little supervision.
Kathy: You are detail-oriented and able to resolve issues independently.
Cherry: Thinking quickly and efficiently are important skills to have because you are working alone.
What is your favorite part of your job?
Kylie: Talking to the guests that come in late. They can be interesting people and sometimes have wild stories about why they have arrived so late.
Frank: Any opportunity to make the guests feel completely taken care of throughout the night. Whatever that might mean.
John: Anticipating needs. There is nothing better than the look on someone’s face when you’ve done something thoughtful without them having to ask.
Cherry: My strong team that is professional and has fun together!
What do you hope to do in the hospitality industry in the future?
Alex: I would like to grow into a Front Desk managerial position.
Lynn: I’ve been at Dana Point Marina Inn for 16 years and hope to continue to be!

<h2>Zero-Waste Culinary Innovation: Less Waste, More Creativity</h2>
In honor of Earth Week, we are showcasing Executive Chef Augusto Caudillo&#8217;s culinary point of view that offers a tantalizing blend of aesthetics, innovation, and nutrition — a testament to his love of cooking, sustainability and bringing people together.
Chef Caudillo is passionate about creating dishes that use every part of the ingredient, from root to leaf, and from nose to tail. “There is satisfaction in simplicity, quality and nourishing dishes” Chef Caudillo says, and he delights in the creativity of no-waste cooking to be both sustainable and cost-effective. One of the first dishes zero-waste dishes originated from the need for hibiscus syrup for a signature margarita, &#8220;in the process of making the syrup, the hibiscus flower that was steeped in water to make the base was discarded. I took the discarded hibiscus flower, sautéed it with onions, tomatoes, peppers, and put it on a housemade blue corn tortilla and made a beautifully moody and tasty taco&#8221; said Chef Caudillo.

Yogurt Marinated Chicken

This dish features a whole chicken that is marinated in yogurt and a blend of spices, then roasted to perfection and served with gremolata. The chicken is sourced from Jimenez Family Farm in Santa Ynez, where the chickens are raised humanely and fed organically. Chef Caudillo uses every part of the chicken for different purposes: the bones and scraps are used to make chicken stock, the tenders are used for the kid&#8217;s menu, and the wings are offered as a special during happy hour. The chicken is served with vegetables from the same farm and chickpeas. The liquid from the chickpeas is not thrown away, but instead goes to the bar, where it is used as an egg substitute to make vegan and gluten-free cocktails. The chickpea liquid, also known as aquafaba, can be whipped into a foam that resembles egg whites and adds a creamy texture and fizziness to drinks.
Moroccan Spiced Roasted Carrots

This dish showcases the versatility and flavor of carrots, which are also grown at Jimenez Family Farm. Chef Caudillo roasts the carrots with a blend of spices then serves them with labneh, a thick and tangy yogurt cheese that he makes in-house. To make the labneh, Chef Caudillo strains plain yogurt until it becomes thick and creamy, and uses the excess liquid from the yogurt to make the marinade for the chicken dish. He also uses the tops of the carrots, which are often discarded, to make a pesto that adds a fresh and herbaceous touch to the dish.
These are just two examples of how Chef Caudillo transforms simple ingredients into complex and flavorful dishes, while minimizing food waste and maximizing sustainability. How does engineering make a difference at your hotel?
It’s really important for guests to have a positive first impression when they drive up to the hotel, enter the lobby, and walk into their room. Something as simple as a light bulb can affect a guest&#8217;s experience.
I know that Engineering is often in the background and not always noticed until something goes wrong. I&#8217;m ok with that because it means we&#8217;re keeping ahead of things!
Can you share what inspired you to start in engineering?
Engineering was not always my intended career path, I have degrees in management, technical communications, and 14-years in the high-tech industry. But I&#8217;ve always been a DIYer, so when I took my first job in hotel engineering eight years ago I knew it was a good fit. This position allows me to draw upon my skills, my education, and my work experience.

<h1>Daring To Be Great: Insights from a Rising Star</h1>

Meet Mary Ellen Goese, she is one of our Corporate Directors of Revenue Management and oversees a portion of the <a href="https://www.247hotels.com/portfolio">Twenty Four Seven Hotels</a> portfolio. In the hospitality industry, we are always learning, no day is the same and we are constantly on our toes. For Mary Ellen, this challenge gives her the opportunity to thrive and continually find ways to make it better.
Describe your professional career journey. 
Other than a brief stint in retail, my entire career has been in hospitality. I started working as a front desk agent in college to gain work experience hours. After graduating, I moved into a group coordinator role because I wanted to have set work hours, and that is when I learned about revenue management, which I’ve done in some capacity since then, with the last 5 years specifically dedicated to revenue management.
Why did you choose the hospitality industry? 
I never had a set career path in mind, which made it challenging to decide on a college major. I thought I would go with a general Business Administration degree but then I heard about the hospitality program at Cal Poly Pomona and liked the idea of having a more specific path. I attended a meet &amp; greet luncheon for the Collins College, really enjoyed the vibe from the students and professors, and that kicked-off my hospitality journey.
What do you love most about your role? 
I like that there are two sides to my revenue management role, which makes it challenging and motivating. There is the data analytics side and the relationship building side. As revenue leaders, we need to understand the systems, reports, data, etc., but we also need to restate all that information in a way that non-revenue team members can absorb and get on board with the strategies and initiatives.
What is the most pressing business challenge you&#8217;ve faced recently and resolved? 
I can’t say that it’s resolved, but as the company grows, we are figuring out how to grow our department sustainably. A focus area right now is automation: how can we invest in people, programs, and tools to reduce time spent on reporting and increase time spent on strategy.
What inspires you to be great? 
For me, it is important that I am someone my team members can rely on. And to gain that trust, I need to do the best that I can at my job, be consistent, and have empathy towards others. That is what I try to work on every day.
Tell us about your professional aspirations.   
My current goal is to continue learning, growing, and improving my knowledge and skills surrounding revenue management and to help my team members do the same.
We hear you provide mentorship at your alma mater, The Collins College of Hospitality Management at Cal Poly Pomona. Tell us a little about that experience and any advice for those upcoming in their career.
I’ve had several opportunities over the last few years to speak to the revenue management class at the Collins College. It’s been great to reconnect with the university and see how much the hospitality program has grown.
In the guest lectures, I try to provide the students with insights on what a revenue manager&#8217;s job is like day-to-day because that is what I would have found useful when I was in school. I also provide the students with free resources they can take advantage of to learn more about revenue management and see if it’s a viable option for them.

It&#8217;s our favorite week of September &#8211; International Housekeeping Week and we&#8217;re celebrating our associates whose role is central to our ability to provide hospitality, finely tuned.
Housekeeping is an essential part of the guest experience, and it’s more than just a perfectly made bed that delivers on this experience. “Housekeeping is the backbone of any hotel,” says Tim Heim, Captain of Moxy Tempe.  “During this week, we really take the time to recognize the tremendous contribution of our Housekeeping teams. And we do it in a way that is not only fun and exciting, but also gives them a chance to show what they do.”

Across our portfolio of 30 hotels, special recognition events and activities are planned throughout the week. Breakfast with the team, potluck lunches, managers from other departments helping for the day, fun gifts and our-famed Housekeeping Olympics. During the Housekeeping Olympics we have different activities like who can vacuum the fastest, soap stacking, lightning-fast bed making, and pillow stuffing. We invite other departments and our Regional teams to participate and cheer them on, so it&#8217;s a fun motivational experience.

There is no truer experience when traveling than when you experience the soul of a destination through the local cuisine. So in honor of National Culinary Arts Month, meet the Star Lounge culinary team who brings to life the refined art of good food and the soul of Sacramento every day.
Executive Chef Graham Forbes, at Star Lounge located inside the Hyatt House Sacramento/Midtown and formerly the Chef de Cuisine at the Kimpton Sawyer Hotel, leads the extraordinary Star Lounge culinary team and has worked in kitchens for over 18 years.
Why did you become a Chef?
Chef Graham: I started washing dishes as one of my first jobs in high school. I loved the fast-paced intense atmosphere. From there I moved to prep and after stints in other fields I always come back to cooking.
What do you love most about your job?
Chef Graham: My team!
What most excites you on the Star Lounge menu?
Chef Graham: Our Short Rib Tacos topped with lime cabbage slaw, avocado purée, micro cilantro, and cotija.

Chef Josh: I specialize in making scratch made, humble comfort food.

Chef Josh: I like being able to give back to the Sacramento community by using sustainable ingredients from small, local businesses.

Chef Dustin: I like being a part of this cool, new experience and am excited to start a weekend brunch in the future.

Cue the confetti! As we wrap up Women’s History Month and our celebration of past, current, and future female leaders, we’d like to shine the spotlight on three of Twenty Four Seven Hotels’ extraordinary female General Managers who are making a difference and opening the table for everyone to contribute.

What inspires you in the workplace? 
Nicole: I’ve always been inspired by those that weren’t always dealt the greatest hand, but you would never know it by their work ethic.
Jessica: Workplace relationships and connections. The opportunity to meet a myriad of individuals from all over the world and learn from the talented associates I lead.
Adilene: The desire to learn something new every day. New challenges arise, nothing is ever the same and being able to find solutions to different situations is inspiring for me.
What is your work mantra? 
Nicole: We set the bar.
Jessica: Stop trying to calm the storm. Calm yourself. The storm will pass.
Adilene: To celebrate all kinds of success whether it&#8217;s big or small, any celebration is exciting and it’s important to find different ways to celebrate your team.
What is your leadership philosophy? 
Nicole: I believe my team is watching how I handle every matter–big and small. Therefore, I lead by example. I show each of them that the bare minimum isn’t an option. Recognition has become a habit to give. I show compassion, recognizing their personal life. We aren’t machines, we are people with feelings, and we all get treated with the same respect. There will always be issues that arise, however, how we deal with them will set a tone for the workplace.
Jessica: Lead by example! Brené Brown phrased it best, &#8220;For me, if you&#8217;re not in the arena also getting your ass kicked, I am not interested in your feedback.&#8221;
Adilene: I enjoy leading by example—what better example than our own.
What advice do you give up and coming female leaders?
Nicole: Being a female leader in a male driven occupation is extremely tough at times. I’m my true self, always. I can be tough, soft, funny, serious, logical, sensitive, and reasonable. But I always demand the same respect I give you. My advice is just to be your authentic self. Set boundaries when needed and enjoy what you’re doing. Because happy employees are productive employees.
Jessica: The ability to learn is the most important skill a leader should have. And empower those around you! The best leaders, develop those around them.
Adilene: The best advice I can ever give is to be yourself! That is the most powerful tool we have as leaders.
In a role, predominantly held by men, these women are carving out their own path to success and helping others along the way. Thank you for sharing your passion and inspiring us all, here&#8217;s to a bright-her future!

As we celebrate Women’s History Month, meet Donna Soumphonphakdy! She is the Director of Sales for two <a href="https://www.247hotels.com/portfolio">Twenty Four Seven Hotels</a> – <a href="https://www.247hotels.com/locations/towneplace-suites-by-marriott-ontario-chino-hills">TownePlace Suites</a> and <a href="https://www.247hotels.com/locations/holiday-inn-express-chino-hills">Holiday Inn Express</a>, both located in beautiful Chino Hills, California. Donna is one of our thriving leaders with a real passion for people and hospitality and she is enthusiastic about what’s to come. 
How did your career begin? 
Honestly, I feel like I was a late bloomer in the hospitality industry. After graduating college, it was challenging to get my foot in the door for a sales position and I knew from my internship at InterContinental Saint Paul Riverfront, operations was not something I wanted to pursue. So, I continued with administrative and retail sales jobs, building experience until I received an opportunity as a Group Sales Manager for Crowne Plaza Minneapolis. That was 2014 and have been in the hospitality industry ever since.   
Why hospitality? What do you love most about your job? 
My mom was a housekeeper for 25 years at the Crowne Plaza Minneapolis. Growing up at the hotel, I loved seeing and being a part of the culture and community they built for their employees. The same hotel was my first Group Sales Manager position.  
I love the real connections I make with people. It’s so important to be able to connect with people, at every level, especially when the connection grows beyond business. Building relationships is key, you just never know when a connection can turn into business.    
How would you describe yourself in a single sentence? 
&#8220;In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different.&#8221; &#8211;Coco Chanel 
What motivated you to step up and become a leader in the organization? 
I am a very goal-oriented person and I always want to challenge myself. With 24seven Hotels, it was easy to want more and want to become a leader because of all the support and encouragement I received from my regional leader, ownership, and peers. Having that level of energy and hype behind you, the sky&#8217;s the limit.  
Who is the person who inspires you or your leadership mentor? 
My parents – they inspire me to want to be better for myself. Growing up I didn’t understand why my parents hustled so hard, why they pushed education, culture, religion, why it was important for them to build a home from the ground up for my sister and me. As I got older, I started to understand more, they left everything they knew for a new life, new language, new culture, new hopes, and dreams. As a first generation Asian American, I owe it to parents and myself to succeed in everything I do – they inspire me every day to be more and authentically myself.  
Favorite piece of advice you’ve received?  
I love all things women’s rights, empowerment, and equality so I really felt it when Rihanna said “There&#8217;s something so special about a woman who dominates in a man&#8217;s world. It takes a certain grace, strength, intelligence, fearlessness, and the nerve to never take no for an answer.”  
What would you say to inspire the next generation of hospitality leaders? 
Never count yourself out – if the client tells you no, it’s a no for right now but it can be a yes in the future.  
What do you do to recharge? 
Me time! I love spoiling myself, spending quality time by myself and being in-tune with my feelings. I am a firm believer in self-care and inner peace. No matter what that looks for a person, mental health is so important, especially in today’s society.  
Favorite app, podcast or book: 
My favorite app is Canva, it’s my go-to! I love creating work-related and personal content.  
My favorite book is “Women Don’t Owe You Pretty” by Florence Given.  
Favorite travel destination: 
I never thought I’d ever say this but Minnesota, I’m sure it will change once my parents decide to move to California. 
Hype song:  
I’m a 90’s and 2000’s era type of girl but any time “Pour It Up” by Rihanna comes on, it’s speaking to my soul!

With celebrities creating their own lines to bars going booze-free, you no longer have to order water if you’re not drinking.
Made from fresh squeezed juices, teas, and other herbal ingredients, a mocktail is as nuanced as the most complicated cocktail. According to Bacardi, 40% of respondents in the 2023 Cocktail Trends Report said they are drinking more non-alcoholic or low alcoholic drinks compared to 2020.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Each November we look forward to a dedicated, weeklong celebration of our customers and opportunities for our teams to participate in local community projects where we live, work and travel. At Twenty Four Seven Hotels, we believe in making each day better and this strong commitment doesn’t apply to just associates, clients and guests but also to the communities our hotels are a part of.
Throughout the week hotel teams hosted their own special events, receptions, and office visits to show appreciation for our loyal customers. This gives us time to personally engage with our clients, strengthen our relationships and thank them for their continued partnership.

In addition to thanking our customers, we champion making a positive impact in our local communities. We empower each of our associates to ask the question “what can I do next” wherever they work and live. No matter how small the project may seem, when our hospitality band collectively comes together a bunch of seemingly little things turn into big things, and we are able to leave things just a little better than before.
A few of this years’ service projects included:

<li>Rake Up Boise – Our Boise hotels team up annually to rake leaves for the elderly in their community.</li>
<li>Second Harvest Food Bank – Our corporate team worked in the fields to plant and harvest fresh produce at Harvest Solutions Farm which supplies 40,000 pounds of healthy produce weekly to those in need.</li>
<li>Bob Hope USO – The teams in Los Angeles worked together to proudly serve our military members and their families seeking comfort and connection to home while traveling.</li>
<li>Orange County Coast keeper – We take a lot of pride in our coastal home and environment. Participating in a beach clean-up day protects marine wildlife and their habitats.</li>
</ul>
Teams also volunteered their time and collected donations for: Coachella Valley Rescue Mission, Boys &amp; Girls Club, West End Shelter for Animals, Foothill Family Shelter, Gathering Humanity, Chino Neighborhood House, Orange County Food Bank, West Valley Food Bank, Family Assistance Ministries and Life Acts.

<h1>A Day in the Life: Housekeeping Department</h1>
Each day our housekeepers come to the hotel with one main goal – to make sure they provide a clean, hygienic and friendly atmosphere to all our guests.
Today, across our hotels, there are 500 rooms to cleaned and 2,000 towels to be washed.
After a team meeting at the start of shift, housekeepers set off with a list of rooms to be cleaned that day, a cart of cleaning products and room amenities, and a vacuum. First, you strip the beds. The linens and dirty towels need to be collected, to be washed immediately. Fresh linens from the cart are stretched across the mattress and folded at the creases for the famous “hotel corners.” Then, you vacuum every corner of the room. You move on to the bathroom. You replace the towels and bath amenities. Every room must look exactly like it did before the guest enters. The guest, in fact, must not be able to notice that anyone was ever there.

If you see our housekeepers in the hotel hallways, you’ll find them with smiling faces always happy to greet you. If a guest has left anything behind, they will keep lost property safe. One of our seasoned housekeepers said, “the most important thing about my job is serving others and the opportunity to do something positive for someone.” Our associates are happy to serve, and the entire team works together to make the hotel shine – literally – so that our guests have the best possible experience. It is the ultimate act of hospitality too often taken for granted, yet unimaginable to be without.
Every September, our industry celebrates Housekeeping Week. While we appreciate their hard work and dedication every day, this is a special week to set aside time to celebrate our associates. Their tireless and selfless contributions make our hotels possible. Thank you to all of our Housekeeping Teams – YOU ROCK!

July is National Culinary Arts Month and things are heating up in the kitchen! To celebrate, we are pleased to introduce two Chefs with Twenty Four Seven Hotels who are serving up good eats and good inspiration—meet Chef Daryl Agorrilla from Hilton Garden Inn Temecula and Chef LaShawna Mushammad from MOXY Phoenix Tempe. Read on as they share their culinary journeys and favorite dishes with us.

Why did you become a Chef?
Chef Daryl: Cooking came natural to me at a young age, but the passion for food and its variety led me to become a chef and learn as much as I could.
Chef LaShawna: While raising my children, I realized how much peace and love being in the kitchen cooking and baking brought me. After coming to a crossroad in my life, I decided to go to Culinary School. I was trained by four of the best chefs that encouraged me to reach for the stars.
What do you love most about your job?
Chef Daryl: Being able to share what I have learned with others, whether it is a dish to enjoy or cooking techniques so they can share as well.
Chef LaShawna: I love having the opportunity to make people happy with good food. MOXY Phoenix Tempe is one of the best places to work, the energy here is contagious, it trickles down from our staff to our guests. Being able to see the smiles on our guests’ faces is what I love most!
What’s currently on your plate?
Chef Daryl: My favorite dish is dependent on my mood, but currently anything to do with Smoking and BBQ.
Chef LaShawna: Green Chili and Chicken Enchiladas are my go-to favorite.
What are the must-try dishes or guest favorites on the menu?
Chef Daryl: Our new Grilled Cajun Shrimp with Remoulade and our Steak Bordelaise
Chef LaShawna: Creme Brulee French Toast and Tijuana Cheesesteak
Share a piece of advice for those just starting their culinary journey or what keeps you going each day.
Chef Daryl: Keep an open mind and stay humble, there is always more to learn.
Chef LaShawna: When you feel like quitting, remember why you started.
It sounds like you are both extremely happy in the kitchen.
Chef Daryl: Yes, we have a great menu and an environment that invites everyone.
Chef LaShawna: I love it. We are so passionate about food and the art of giving great service.

Taking inspiration from Jimmy Buffett’s 1977 hit song, “Margaritaville,” this drink is sure to transport you to someplace happy. Read the recipe below and give it a taste, cheers!
Recipe: Spicy Margarita 
Makes 1 cocktail
Rim drinking glass with Tajin 
2 ounce Local Tequila 
1 ounce Fresh Lime Juice 
1/2 ounce Agave Syrup 
2-4 Pressed Jalapeno Slices 
Add Ice, Shake and Strain into a Double Old-Fashioned glass 
Top with Grapefruit Soda 
Garnish with Jalapeno Slices and Lime Wedge

We are thrilled to share Alva Nava’s recent promotion to Front Office Manager. Alva has been with Twenty Four Seven Hotels for 4 years. She joined the opening team of the Hampton Inn &amp; Suites Buena Park in 2018, working in various roles from Sales Coordinator to Front Desk Agent.

Alva truly reflects many of our core values – kindness, compassion, and collaboration. “In the time I have worked with Alva, I have witnessed her genuine thoughtfulness and caring for both her team members and hotel guests. She will do everything from set up a meeting room and help the breakfast staff buss a table to answering the phones. Her smile and welcoming attitude have built a strong bond between the hotel and loyal guests” said Amanda Gould, Sales Manager at Hampton Inn &amp; Suites Buena Park.
Alva’s initiative to learn and grow is inspiring to all of us. “Since joining the Twenty Four Seven Hotels team, I have grown tremendously in my career and in my personal life. As we celebrate Women&#8217;s History Month, we looked at a recent study by the Castell Project &amp; the American Hotel &amp; Lodging Association stating &#8220;women hold only one leadership spot for every ten men&#8221; yet we know women are critical to our industry—as owners, leaders and workforce, they make up 57% of industry employees.
Hannah Huse, our Vice President of Sales &amp; Marketing shares her passion for mentorship and why building a supportive culture are key for changing these statistics.
&#8220;As a young mom, I always struggled with the tension of pursuing my career and wanting to be a present provider for my children. I had shame attached to choosing one over the other and anxiety about letting either down. I think it’s important for us to eliminate that shame and build corporate cultures that accommodate both professional growth and motherhood. We must value the unique strengths of women leaders and create an environment that supports mentorship, helping them find their voice and reach new career goals. Getting to teach and train not just sales and marketing skills, but the importance of our values and the way we interact, is one of my favorite parts of my role with Twenty Four Seven Hotels. We have the same passion for developing people as we do hotels.&#8221;
Over the last four years, I have had the opportunity to work with Deanna Kautai and participate in her development from Sales Manager to Regional Director of Sales. Most recently though, I had the joy of watching her become a mother, learning how to thrive within the home and hotel contexts.
&#8220;Hannah has played a crucial role in my development within Twenty Four Seven Hotels&#8221; says Deanna Kautai. &#8220;As I navigate being a new working mom, she provides mentorship, advice and encouragement based on her personal experiences. One of our company&#8217;s guiding principles is ‘Lead by Example,’ and I’ve been able to excel because she paved the way. I’ve followed her daily examples and taken each opportunity Twenty Four Seven Hotels has given me.&#8221;
Leesa Gibbons, Vice President of People Resources &amp; Development adds &#8220;As we come out of the pandemic, it is even more important to provide new ways of operating with flexible schedules that can accommodate the needs of women to help them reach their potential.&#8221;
Being a female in leadership takes grit, continuous learning, and a willingness to use your voice for the good of others. “I believe leading through humility is key to supporting and raising other women up as we move forward” says Hannah Huse.
