Moxy Hotel Tempe Launching New Menu Tied to Your Mood

Hotel partners with United Food Bank for Hunger Action Month, offering themed food items.

Tempe, Arizona (September 7, 2019) – Moxy Tempe, the first Moxy hotel by Marriott International to open in the U.S., is launching a new food and beverage menu in September. The launch of the new menu will coincide with Hunger Action Month, established by Feeding America in 2008. The hotel is partnering with United Food Bank, a local chapter of Feeding America, by donating 10% of food revenue from every Saturday in the month of September.

The new menu was inspired by the social and communal design of Moxy Hotels by linking menu items to moods. The menu items were crafted as shareable plates that are hearty enough as a meal and appeal to a casual demographic.

“The expanded menu is intended to enhance the Moxy brand experience in Tempe, AZ for the wide range of travelers we currently serve, from business to leisure and families.” explains Moxy general manager DJ Kooner. “By partnering with United Food Bank, we are able to serve many others in our own community, in the same spirit of hospitality.

The menu is available during breakfast and includes a ‘Sun Devilish Burrito’, in honor of the ASU campus across the street from the hotel. Dinner menu items include ‘Sun Devilish Dog, ‘Beer Thirty Tacos’ and ‘The Hangry Burger’, among many other dishes crafted in the spirit of Moxy’s playful brand.

“Moxy Tempe has a passion for nourishing and nurturing guests in their hotel,” said Dave Richins CEO of United Food Bank. “There’s also a strong impulse to feed people in our community who don’t have enough to eat. I am grateful to partner with them so that they and their guests can support our fellow Arizonans during Hunger Action Month.”

As of 2017, the state of Arizona was ranked #10 for food insecurity. One in four kids and one in seven seniors are at risk for hunger. United Food Bank serves five counties in Arizona, providing volunteer services, meals, programs and monetary donations to fight hunger.

Guests are guided through the list of menu items by linking them to particular moods, such as adventurous, indulgent and ‘woke’. Emoji symbols will replace the number placards used by more traditional, fast-casual dining restaurants.

“The most common question people ask around mealtime is: ‘What are you in the mood for?’, so we leveraged emojis as a familiar form of communication to complement the innovative brand DNA of Moxy Hotels.” explains Alison Sansone, VP of Marketing and Communication for Twenty Four Seven Hotels, the management company operating the Moxy Hotel in Tempe. “Teaming up with United Food Bank is an equally valuable part of this brand’s interest in connecting with the local communities of the hotels.”
